Noida Woman Found Buried, Dogs Nibbling On Body: Cops

The body of a married woman was found buried in a vacant plot in Greater Noida with dogs nibbling on it Friday, a fortnight after her brother approached police fearing her death by her in-laws over dowry. Police said they had lodged an FIR on March 15 based on the brother's complaint and are probing the case. However, a police official said the charge of "dowry death" does not stand in cases where marriages outlast seven years. The body of Sarita (26) was found in Sector 155, Noida, by locals who spotted dogs nibbling on what appeared to be a human body buried shallowly in the ground, a day after intense rains and thunderstorms. "When the locals went near, they saw a woman's cloth after which they alerted the local Knowledge Park police station," the official said. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Ashok Kumar Singh said the police immediately reached the spot and the body was exhumed. "The brother of the deceased had lodged

86-Year-Old British Grandfather Breaks World Weightlifting Record

At the age of 86, going to the gym and performing consistent workouts for six days a week is undoubtedly challenging, but a British grandfather has defied all expectations and set a new world record in weightlifting. According to a BBC report , "Brian Winslow lifted 75kg (165lb) with his first attempt in the deadlift at the 2023 British Drug Free Powerlifting Association (BDFPA) championships on March 18. The lift was a UK record for someone of Mr. Winslow's age and weight. Mr. Winslow, from Derbyshire, then bettered it with a lift of 77.5kg (171lb) with his very next effort." The former art teacher first became interested in weightlifting while working as a beach attendant in Paignton, south Devon, in the 1950s. Brian Winslow has been bodybuilding for more than 60 years and still trains six days a week in his home gym. He has converted the downstairs of his home in New Mills, Derbyshire, into a fully equipped gym, as reported by Wales Online. "I'm absolutely

Russia To Place Submarines With Nuclear Torpedoes In The Pacific By 2024: Report

Russian is planning to complete the construction of its coastal infrastructure in early 2024. The country is planning to build it in the Pacific Ocean for basing nuclear submarines that will carry the Poseidon nuclear-capable super torpedoes, state-owned news agency TASS reported. In January, Russia produced the first set of the Poseidon torpedoes, four years after President Vladimir Putin announced the fundamentally new type of strategic nuclear weapon, confirming it would have its own nuclear power supply, Reuters reported. The report further shares a few confirmed details about the Poseidon in the public domain, but it is essentially a cross between a torpedo and a drone which can be launched from a nuclear submarine. The torpedoes are being developed for deployment on the Belgorod and Khabarovsk nuclear submarines, TASS reported. "Work on the construction of coastal infrastructure facilities for basing two special submarines in Kamchatka is planned to be completed early ne

Rahul Gandhi Can Ask For MP Status Revival If Jail Term Stayed: Experts

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha on Friday, is entitled to go back to the Speaker for revival of his MP status if he gets a judicial order from an appellate court staying his two-year jail sentence and conviction in a 2019 criminal defamation case, according to legal experts. Mr Gandhi, a former Congress president, was on Thursday sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court after he was held guilty of defamation over his "Modi surname” remark. The court also suspended the jail sentence for 30 days to allow Gandhi to appeal in a higher court. Senior advocate and Supreme Court Bar Association(SCBA) President Vikas Singh said Gandhi will have to move quickly to a superior court and get suspension of the sentence and the stay of conviction to get his Lok Sabha membership revived before the Election Commission comes into the picture and announces a by-election from his parliamentary constituency in Wayanad in Kerala. “If there is a

TikTok Chief Faces Hostile US Lawmakers Over China Ties

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew faced relentless questioning from combative US lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle Thursday over the video-sharing app's alleged ties to China and its danger to teens. The 40-year-old Singaporean suffered unusually intense grilling by both Republicans and Democrats who fear that Beijing could subvert the site for spying, data harvesting and to secretly defend a Chinese Communist Party agenda. The Harvard-educated former banker failed over several grueling hours to defuse an existential threat to TikTok as the app seeks to survive a White House ultimatum that it either split from its Chinese ownership or get banned in the United States. In the morning session of the House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing, lawmakers afforded Chew no respite, frequently denying him opportunities to expand on his answers or tout the site's huge global popularity with young people. "ByteDance is not owned or controlled by the Chinese government and is

Congress In A Huddle Over Court Verdict Against Rahul Gandhi In Defamation Case

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday convened a meeting of top party leaders at his residence to discuss the situation arising out of the conviction and two-year sentence of Rahul Gandhi by a Surat court in a defamation case. Senior Congress leaders, including party MPs, gathered at Mr Kharge's residence in the evening and deliberated on the political fallout of Mr Gandhi's conviction. A court at Surat in Gujarat on Thursday sentenced Mr Gandhi to two years in jail in a 2019 criminal defamation case filed against him over his "why all thieves have Modi surname" remark. The court also granted the former Congress chief bail and suspended the sentence for 30 days to allow him to appeal in a higher court. Sources said the party leaders discussed that immediate legal remedies be taken to challenge the Surat trial court verdict and get it stayed from a higher court. New Variant Driving Up Fresh Wave Of Covid Cases? What Ex AIIMS Chief Said

As India witnessed the highest number of Covid cases in over four months, former AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria on Wednesday said the new XBB.1.16 variant could be driving the recent rise but emphasised there was no need for panic as long it does not cause severe illness and deaths. New variants will keep coming as the virus keeps on mutating over the time and the XBB 1.16 is sort of a "new kid on the block", Dr Guleria told PTI in an interview. "... As long as they don't lead to severe illness, hospitalisation and deaths, it is alright because it helps in giving some degree of immunity to the population if they have mild illness," the renowned pulmonologist, who was part of the national Covid task force, said. His comments come on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting to review the Covid situation and also took stock of the public health preparedness. India recorded 1,134 new coronavirus cases, the highest in 138 days, while t

New Species Of "Rare Gigantic" Trapdoor Spider Found In Australia, Pics Go Viral

A rare and gigantic trapdoor spider was discovered by researchers at the Queensland Museum of Australia. The rare specie was found hiding beneath a trapdoor made of silk and soil west of Brisbane. The scientific name of this species of 'trapdoor spider' is 'Euoplos dignitas'. The body of this spider is approximately 5 cm (2 inches) in length, excluding the legs. Euoplos dignitas is a large trapdoor spider that lives in open woodland habitats and builds its burrows in the black soils of the Central Queensland region. According to the press release by Queensland Museum Network , the name of this new species is derived from the Latin dignitas meaning dignity or greatness, reflecting the impressive size and nature of the spider. This species is known from only a very few locations around Eidsvold and Monto in Central Queensland and has lost much of its habitat to land clearing, which makes it likely to be an endangered species. US Prepares For Unprecedented Likely Arrest Of Trump

America readied itself Monday ahead of the possible historic indictment of Donald Trump over a hush-money case, with the former president calling for mass demonstrations if he is charged. Trump supporters were scheduled to protest in New York later Monday as Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg weighs charging the ex-president over a payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels in 2016. Trump would become the first former or sitting president to ever be charged with a crime if an indictment is filed -- a move that would send shockwaves through the 2024 White House race, in which Trump is running to regain office. Bragg, an elected Democrat, has not confirmed any plans to indict, but has indicated that prosecutors are nearing a decision by putting key witnesses in front of a grand jury in recent weeks and offering Trump the opportunity to testify. The 76-year-old former Republican president said over the weekend that he expects to be "arrested" on Tuesday and urged supporters
